Enterprise Resources

I had my network install MS Project Server on a POC machine. He created accounts for him and me. These accounts work fine but do not display in the Enterprise Resource Pool. I connected to the server fine. I added a project to Project Server, but when I attempted to merge the resources from my local project schedule with the server's Enterprise Resource Pool, I got an error when it got to my account. The error stated that it could not add the resource that represented me since there is already an account with that name. That seems like a logical error; however, I can not find a way to add my Project Server account to the Enterprise Resource Pool.

I suppose that I could do a work around and change the way the account is named in my local project (thus eliminating any naming conflict) and then add it to the Enterprise Resource Pool. I suppose I could then synchronize the accounts using the Project Web administrative tool, but this seems like a hack. Is there a way to do this properly.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Brian:

Try importing the resources from your project file first,
by going to Tools > Enterprise options > Import Resources
to enterprise. Make sure that the data in the plan is
exactly the same as you entered as a user including the
Windows account. The system should map these to each other.

Do the following to solve your problem:

1. Open Microsoft Project 2002 and log into Project Server using
Administrator rights
2. Open the Enterprise Resource Pool
3. Add yourself to the pool using the exact name as the User Account that
was set up in PWA
4. Save and close the pool

When you attempt to import the project again, you will be able to match up
the yourself as the local resource with yourself as a member of the
Enterprise Resource Pool. Hope this helps.

I can not import the resources from the local file first. The resource that I am trying to import from my local schedule to the list of Enterprise Resources represents me & my account. Thus, the account has to be initially created within Project Server so that I may log on in order to attempt an import. So, when I attempt the import, I get the conflict.

As far as I can determine, the local resource has exactly the same properties as the Project Server account. The windows login is the same. The name is the same. The email is the same. The Import Wizard does not identify them as the same account. It just errors.

These seem like bugs or shortcomings of the software.

Thanks for you assistance. Is there something else that I could try?

Thanks all for your help. I managed to resolve this issue. It appears that if you want to bootstrap yourself into the Enterprise Resource Pool from an existing project, you are out of luck. It seems like you need to either create these from scratch or use another account and then merge the two. This is a lot more convoluted than it should have been.
