Entire Program Not Working

My Microsoft Word completely and suddenly refuses to open. Every other program, including the other Microsoft Office programs work fine. Whenever I open a document, create a new document, or open the program directly, the small screen saying "Word 2000, licensed to... etc." opens, then sometimes the full frame, but then the computer either shuts down, or tells me that Word is not responding and the computer does not have enough resources to use the program. Shortly afterwards Explorer shuts down, then the whole computer. I have tried System Restore--it doesn't help. I have reinstalled Microsoft Word--doesn't help either. Please help me. I am a college student and need to write papers regularly and I'm lost without Word. If it makes any difference, I use Microsoft ME edition, and I have had no other serious problems with my computer or other programs.
