Entourage 2004 Error 16008 - Network Home Directory

I'm getting error 16008 from Entourage 2004 in a Netboot setup [ie with the
home directory on a network volume].

Initial setup - importing email from Outlook Express - works fine but
subsequent launches generate the 16008 error and Entourage quits.

If Word is open before launching Entourage then the problem goes away...so
there's an easy workaround but it's still a pain.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
