Entourage 2004 file recovery

This morning, Entourage 2004 suddenly wouldn't open any attachments. I
re-started and when I opened Entourage again, all my emails, contacts,
calendar items - everything was gone. The database file is 594 MB, so
I think all the files are there. I rebuilt the database, which wasn't
corrupted - and it didn't help. I am now attempting to import my 2004
database into Entourage 2004, but the only options I am given are to
import from Entourage X or Entourage 2001 or other email clients. Does
anyone have any idea how I can import the database? I am considering
changing to Apple Mail, but I really need my emails, contacts, etc.

You can't import from the same version. You can use the export as Entourage
archive and import that but not from another Identity in the same version.
Unless you can open Entourage or have a backup this won't help you.

Have you run Repair Permissions lately? A 594 MB database isn't very large,
but it is larger than a base Identity so I'm unsure all of your data is in
the database showing.

Do you have a backup you could use? If not, I hope this gets you started
doing routine backup.
