Entourage 2004 Slow Down & Crash When WORD is open??

I have just turned off background database integrity check for Entourage,
because I think that is what is causing my problems, but I'm getting a LOT
of crashes on HTML mail and switching between emails in preview mode by
clicking on the next one in the preview window.

I am noticing the problem is much worse when Word is also open, although
Word doesn't seem to crash... The sequence is :
Click on a new or another email in the preview list (preview pane is at the
bottom), Spinning Beach Ball.... For about 25 seconds, then Crash and Send
Report to MS.

If turning off background integrity check doesn't stop this behavior, I'm
strongly considering a switch to another email program. This is happening
too frequently to be worth it. About 10 times per day.

This can be fixed. If everyone was having this problem, the noise would be
deafening on this newsgroup.

Follow my directions about testing in a new user. "Re: Problem with
Entourage 2004 - Entourage constantly crashes"

Once you can identify the source of your problem, you can fix it.

1. Your base OS files are corrupt. Fix: run combo or do "Archive & Install"
2. Your User's folder has problems. Check for third party conflicts and
corrupt preferences.
3. Your Entourage Identity is corrupt. Fix: Rebuild your Identity or create
a new Identity.

Well, it crashes as well by itself, without Word opening. I am sure this has
to do with HTML mails in preview:

I've cleaned caches, run PRAM, and created a New Identity, rebuilt the
database completely. Entourage is the ONLY program giving me this much
trouble with regular crashes.

Did you test in a new User? Not a new Identity but a User. Go to System
Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by
logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

Diane, this makes no sense for several reasons:
1. I'd have to duplicate all my accounts and then import my existing
database to get enough emails in the new account to test it.

2. The problem is intermittent and only happens on some messages. I cannot
tell if it is the message itself for some error with the program's attempt
to access some memory area with a click. I keep getting Exc_Bad errors and
requests for obsolete anchors...

IOW, it would take me hours in a new user to find out if it would crash.
I've been using it for 3 hours this morning before the first crash, but it
only crashed when I opened Word and both programs are open. So it is
telling. The error at the bottom shows a TYPE KEY Error related to outdated
MSWORD functions.

Yesterday, I found a hint about replacing the invisible
..GlobalPreferences.plist from a new user acct, which I did.

This is the best test to find if it's your User's folder. Another option is
to do an "Archive & Install". I did this a few days ago and only had to
re-install my MSFT keyboard software.
