A colleague has a Mac book with OS X 10.5.5
He is running Entourage 2008 Version 12.0.0

Last week I managed to setup a link to Exchange but since then a file was
corrupted so he had to reinstall Entourage, since then I have had no joy!

When I try to run with the wizard it says Detecting Domain controller and
then comes back and says that it cannot setup automatically so I finsih it
off manually and when I verify the settings it says Verificatio failed -
Unknown error - 8738

I have read countless articles on the web as to how I should specify my
Exchange server and have tried ip address , FQDN, https://FQDN/Username,
https://FQDN/Exchange but all to no avail. I have also tried various
variations of using SSL and specifying LDAP servers.

The Mac is on the Lan and I can ping the server by ip address, by its
netbios name and by its FQDN.

Outlook web access works fine using Safari.

One thing worth mentioning is the name of the Windows domain is not the same
as the email domain (i.e the email addreses are along the lines of
(e-mail address removed) whilst the Windows domain is london.local

Previously when it worked I thought after starting the wizard and it talking
to the domain controllers I was asked for a username and password, but this
isn§t happening now.

I cannot find any log files to say why it is failing, are there any?

First, to avoid problems make sure your Office 2008 is fully patched to
version 12.1.4.
The Mac is on the Lan and I can ping the server by ip address, by its
netbios name and by its FQDN.

The Windows domain name and the DNS name are not the same and are not
related. The fact that they are different shouldn't matter.
Previously when it worked I thought after starting the wizard and it talking

I have setup instructions here connecting Entourage 2004 to Exchange.
They also apply to Entourage 2008.

"Connecting Entourage to an Exchange Server at work"

Hope this helps!
