When you select an older Identity from Entourage 2004 or Entourage X, it
will update that Identity and create a new Office 2008 Identity folder in
your Microsoft User Data folder. This upgrading process is quite lengthy and
you should see a window that showing it's importing.

Do you ever see the import window? Do you still have Entourage 2004
installed so you can try rebuilding your Identity before trying to import?
If you have to re-install, it's going to mess up your 2008 fonts and you
will need to run the installer again to get things back to the new updated
state.

You can just create a new blank Identity in Entourage 2008 and start fresh.
You can manually move your data out of Entourage 2004 and import it into
Entourage 2008. It should however, import your data or give you some kind of
warning that the database is corrupt.

The easiest way to get your data out is to use File --> Export --> Select to
export as Entourage archive (.rge). This file can be easily imported into
Entourage 2008. It won't get your Accounts or rules, but you will get your
data.

To get your sigs and rules, try this first....Create a test Identity, drag
over your Rules and Signatures files from 2004 using Option drag so it
copies them to your new test Identity overwriting those files. Do they show
up correctly? If yes, then you know it would be safe to do that with your
new Main Identity.

I still have Entourage 2004 and all the data I copied it to another
drive. And currently that is the only way I can receive email as
Entourage 2008 is unusable at present time.

When I load Entourage 2008 I receive the message that " Entourage
cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your
database." When I click on Okay it brings up the database utilitity
and asks me to select a database to maintain. Np databases are shown
as available. What do I do now?

Move your 2004 Identity back to the Microsoft User Data folder. You can have
both the Office 2004 Identity and Office 2008 Identity folders in the
Microsoft User Data folder.
