Entourage / Active Sync / Exchange Server issue

Hello All,

I still see that the issue surrounding active sync and exchange server is
still with us in Entourage 2008. Microsoft has an article ID 926521
explaining the issue with entourage 2004, but it is still not fixed.
How hard can this be to fix, surely other people using mobile devices that
use active sync with exchange server and entourage are not happy.
For those who are not familiar with this issue, here is the description from
the Microsoft Article.

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
organization, you send an e-mail message from a mobile device by using
Exchange ActiveSync. Later, when you view the Sent Items folder in Microsoft
Entourage 2004 for Mac, the header information is not displayed for this
e-mail message. Additionally, if you open this message, you notice that the
header information is included in the body section of the message. However,
the header information is unreadable.

CAUSE
This problem occurs because an additional character is added to the header
information when an e-mail message is sent by using Exchange ActiveSync.
This is in compliance to RFC 2822, section 2.1. The additional character is
not handled in Entourage 2004.

I know that this has been raised before in this newsgroup, I am wondering
how to get Microsoft's attention to fix this.

Steve,

Thx much for staying on this. I am not as tech savvy as you, but as a user of Apple and MS (since '84) products and now an iPhone user, I am very, very disappointed Apple and MS cannot fix this.

Just upgraded my Mac tp 10.5.3 hoping that might help and so far NOTHING is better.

Let's hope others with syncing issues will keep writing to let the Office 2008 folks that they need to fix this.

Fred,

Yep, how hard can it be....

I am also an Iphone user, even though these are not technically available in
Australia.... What was Apple thinking !!

This syncing issue is not a problem with Outlook (Any Version) or web mail.
Is it not true that MAC Office is developed by Microsoft, just like Windows
Office ????

I am very disappointed.

I couldn't agree more! this can NOT be such a difficult issue to resolve.
Does anybody at Microsoft actually read our issues?
It's been an issue for YEARS now, surely somebody at MS can fix this.

Why not use Outlook for Mac? Or simply Use a Windows Mobile 6.1 device?

Outlook for Mac has been dead for years and does not operate at all on OS X.
Entourage is the the program in MS Office for Mac that offers e-mail,
newsgroups, and calendars.

Although many people expect Entourage to be the equivalent of Outlook or
Outlook Express for Windows, it is a completely different program and does
not offer the degree of compatibility with Windows that the other Office
apps (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, all of which were originally available on
Mac before they were on Windows!) provide. In particular, it lacks many
features that Windows users take for granted.

Is there a hotfix for this? we really need a fix for this

This should already be fixed in Exchange Server 2007. I doubt Microsoft
will be changing Exchange Server 2003.

I personally think that MacBU could still do something with Entourage
2008 and apply the same fix to Entourage 2004, however, 2004 is now juts
in maintenance mode. Keep in mind that this is *not* a problem with
Entourage but rather with ActiveSync.

Please be sure to let Microsoft know you'd like to see this fixed in all
versions by using the Help --> Send Feedback mechanism in any Office
application.

In the meantime, I've written a script that will allow you to read the
messages. You can find it here:

"Use AppleScript to read ActiveSync Sent Items in Entourage"
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008..._read_activesync_sent_items_in_entourage.html>
or <http://tinyurl.com/6f83vv>

Hope this helps!
