Entourage automatically cancelling invitations

If I send out and invitation in the calendar, entourage gives me a message
that it cannot send the email, and then deposits a cancellation notice in my
out box that goes next time I send and receive.
The original message does actually get through, but there is no recognition
of it in my sent box.

Also another computer keeps getting an error message code 3170 after sending
a message.
