Entourage conduit won't work in Palm Hotsync

i have just installed office 2004 on a mac running leopard. i
installed the entourage 2004 conduit into palm hotsync manager. the
sync worked a few times and then stopped. when i open the conduit
settings window and try to open the entourage conduit, it won't open.
i have reinstalled the entourage conduit a number of times, restarted
and still can't get it to open or sync. entourage is the only conduit
i have installed so there is no issue of conflicts. is there a
problem with entourage 2004 and leopard?

how do i solve this problem?

thank you!

Open Activity Monitor application (it is in the applications folder,
probably under utilities) and see if you have 2 "Database Daemon"
applications running. If so, quit the process of one of them and also
go into your users in system preferences and make sure that only of
these is listed as a login item. If 2 are running the Entourage
Conduit won't open. It took me HOURS to diagnose this problem when it
happened to me and Microsoft didn't have a clue. Good luck.

ok, i am NOT worthy!

i know enough about mac technical stuff to know that this is one of
the most bizarre and unintuitive sleuthing jobs i have ever seen. i
am amazed it only took you hours to solve...i NEVER would have gotten
there.

there were two database daemons and 2 entourage databases in my login
items. i deleted the smaller of the daemons and one of the login
items but that didn't work. when i restarted, i was back to 2 and 2.
so i deleted the larger database daemon but then Entourage wouldn't
work. i restarted and and was back to 2 and 2! so i deleted the
smaller database daemon again and the other login item and it worked
perfectly (yeah!). i then deleted entourage as a login item,
restarted and the sync worked without having to do any deleting (only
one daemon and one microsoft database item in login items...can i
delete this now?).

however, entourage is no longer a startup item. this is a small
sacrifice but i would like to have it as a startup item. does this
bug mean i can't have it as a startup item? even if i can't for now, i
know how conscientious microsoft is about addressing bugs, especially
on the mac side, so i'm sure there will be a fix out in a week...or a
decade.

thank you! this was a really annoying problem. i HAVE to be able to
sync for work.

You can delete ALL Microsoft Database daemons in Startup items. Entourage
will automatically create a new one when launched. See if this will help you
add Entourage back as a startup item. I would check Entourage to see if you
have any schedules set to run at startup. This could cause some problems
especially if there is a corrupt message trying to send or be received.

In all of the years Entourage 2004 has been in use, this is the first time
I've seen having two daemons being linked to sync. It's certainly not a
option I would have tried. Thanks for your sleuthing and sharing your
results. I'll get this posted on the Entourage Help Page.
