Entourage crash every 10 minutes

My Entourage mail program crashes approximately every 10 minutes, preceded
by the "Mail sent" sound. Upon automatically relaunching (Microsoft follows
the crash with a request to report the problem, followed by optional
restart), there are about four of the same "mail sent" sounds.

This problem started soon after I had reinstalled 2004 Office for Mac (bad
advice), student edition. I have an iBook G4, OS 10.4.10.

Without knowing what I'm doing, I tried trashing the preference list for
Entourage. It didn't help.
