Entourage Crash on Opening

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange When I open Entourage I receive the message "The application Entourage quite unexpectedly" I have removed the Microsoft User Data folder and it will launch without a problem. Whenever I put the data folder back it will not. I have moved the data folder to other machines and get the same message. I have uninstalled Office 2004 and put a fresh install and done incremental upgrades and keep getting the same message. I really need to recover the messages that are stored locally on the machine. Obviously not concerned with the messages that are on the Exchange Server. The following is the report that is generated.

Whenever I put the data folder back it will not.

Hold down the Shift key when launching Entourage and see if Entourage
will open. If yes, then check the outbox for a message that is trying to
send.

If this does not help. hold down the Option key when launching Entourage
and select to rebuild.

How to rebuild:

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild
does make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and
backup get merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

Note: Unless you have a lot of free space, rebuilds will often fail to
complete.

I have done all of that and could not recover the file. In fact with that data file in the microsoft user folder Entourage crashes before it gets to the rebuild screen and if I do the shift key same thing. Last thing I did on Friday was actually take the data file and put it on a machine that has Office 2008. It looks like I am going to be able to recover most of the file. Monday I am going to try and export it as a mbox file and see if I can get it back into Entourage 2004. I will let you know what happens and if you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them as I have had this happen before and never been able to recover the file. And I still have the database so I can still play with it to experiment. Thank you for your response.
