Huge thanks to Dianne Ross and to Corentin for their advice, as I too found Entourage had lost every address, old email etc etc this morning and was about to go quietly insane until I found their earlier answers to the problem... just put your Microsoft User Data back where it was and NEVER move it again!

Blessings on you both

I'm glad you got it sorted out and got your data back. I know it can be
a distressing moment when you see that everything is gone (and you
don't have backups :->

Moving the Microsoft User Data folder is probably one of the most common
mistakes a user makes. The heartbreak comes when they delete it before
realizing what happened.

Glad we could help.

It would really behoove Microsoft, in the interest of usability, to
place this folder in ~/Library/Application Support where it arguably
belongs, not to mention where it would be much less prone to being
moved!

I tend to agree that this is he 'proper' place for this kind of dta,
according to the Apple Guidelines. Unfortunately, one f th eowrst
companies for following Apple's guidelines is err... Apple!
Not many people know this, but if you move the Microsoft User Data
folder into ~/Library/Preferences, Microsoft Office will find it
automatically, and there will be much less chance of it getting moved
accidentally. I've never understood Microsoft's decision to make the
default location the Documents folder.

It has been discussed in the past and the general feeling has been that
while the definition of the type of data contained is somewhat open to
interpretation, a persons emails and contacts are more akin to
user-generated documents than machine-generated support information. Of
course, the 'right' place for user generated documents is the MUD.

One big problem with moving the default MUD folder out of documents is
that it is much less likely to get backed up. Now Time Machine is
available on every new system, this may slowly change.

My preferred solution would be to use AppSupp as the default location,
but check for an existing MUD in Documents and use that one if
available. If one is not found in either location, hen ASK THE USER to
locate one or create a new one, and allow the user to put it where they like
