Entourage database size

I just switched from Outlook Express to Entourage X (10.1.6). The
conversion of my mailboxes appeared to go smoothly, but I was surprised
to find that the database size increased from 24 MB in Outlook Express
to 215 MB in Entourage.

What would make the Entourage version of the IDENTICAL mail nine times
larger? Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. For one thing, Outlook Express has a separate "Messages"
file where (guess what) the messages are stored, whereas in Entourage X the
messages and everything else are in the one Database file. For another, the
structure of even an empty identity in Entourage - encompassing the
framework for calendar, tasks, notes, custom views, links, more complex
contacts and much else in addition to mail folders - takes up more room even
before you enter new data. It's bigger again in Entourage 2004. With the
increased size comes better performance. Don't worry about it.
