Entourage does not sync with Exchange 2007 anymore

J

Jaco Voigt

I am using Entourage 2008 connecting to Exchange 2007 [running on Windows
Server 2003 SP2].
During the week the server did automatic MS updates [about 18 of them] and
suddenly my Entourage doesn't sync anymore.

I can authenticate 100% but no sync happens after that - it doesn't look
like Entourage is even attempting to look for mail or just sync my mailbox.

Please help.

Hi Jaco!

Let's try a few basic trouble-shooting steps that should work most of
the time.

Right-click or Control-click your Exchange account name in the folder
list on the left, select Folder Properties and click the Empty button to
empty the cache. Allow Entourage time to resync all your messages from
the server.

If that doesn't work then go to Tools --> Accounts and delete your
Exchange account. (You'll be deleting all items in your Entourage caches
of messages but your server should have everything to sync them back
again.) Create your account again and allow it time to sync.

Finally, if re-creating your account doesn't work, use the Entourage
menu --> Switch Identity... command to create a new identity and set up
your account again. Any archived messages will have to be exported from
your old identity and then imported later and custom rules and
schedules will have to be recreated too.

If none of that works then your problem is most likely with your
Exchange Server.

View your account using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Does everything look
OK and up-to-date there? Can you connect using Outlook for Windows and
see your account's data there? If not, contact your server's administrator.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill

I've tried all the options and still I authenticate but no sync takes place.
I am pretty convinced the issue is on the Exchange server side - seeing that
the problem started after the latest automatic MS updates to the server.

Outlook connects and sync perfectly, the same with OWA - all mail there and
I can send and receive.

It's almost like once Entourage has authenticated, it's not getting told
where to collect mail or where to look to sync with.
We've checked the Exchange server and all the relevant IIS, etc settings
seem to be correct.

I was hoping the following the updates, other people might have experienced
similar issues.

Not sure where to go from here.

Hi Jaco!

Are you using a back-end (direct to your Exchange Server) or a front-end
(OWA address) to connect to your account? If you switch addresses does
anything change?

Hi Bill

I've always been using the owa address [https://] but I've tried to point
directly at the Exchange server similar to Outlook but when I do that I don't
even get asked to authenticte.

So short answer: OWA address

Are you inside your company network while you're trying to use your OWA
address? If so, then you really need to try using your backend server
address.

Since you're connecting to Exchange Server 2007, try using this as your
server address:

server.domain.com/exchange/[email protected]

where "(e-mail address removed)" is your E-mail address.

Also, SSL is rarely needed within your company network. Disable that as
well if necessary.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill

I'm connecting to a hosted platform - so I'm not physically on the LAN.

Hi Bill

I am pretty convinced that the problem is on the Exchange side, since the problem occurred following automatic Microsoft updates. I was hoping the reports came in from other users having the same problem.

I don't want to change the client side, as it's been working fine for over a year.
There's something on the Exchange side that's not right - I just don't know where to even look.

Is there a best-practice document that outlines how the Exchange 2007 side should be configured for Entourage 2008 to connect to it?
