Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Many of my emails are blanked out in Grey when I open entourage and when I click on them I get a mail error message stating "the action could not be completed, mail error" and entourage shuts down.

if you are connecting POP, sounds like your client is not downloading the entire message and only the headers (why they are all grey)
maybe delete your account settings in Entourage, then remove the Main Identity contents which are the database and others.(Be sure to backup this folder before doing so. Make a copy and place some place safe) Then try resetting up your account in Entourage and seeing what happens.

This is a sign of database corruption. Before you try rebuilding, how much
free space do you have on your drive and what size is your database?

Entourage X should be 10.1.6. If you have not upgraded. Quit Entourage and
move your Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop. Upgrade and let
Entourage create a new Microsoft User Data folder then drag back your
Identity, scripts and any other personal files.

Microsoft Office v. X for Mac 10.1.9 Update release date 1/5/2007 (This
update includes all of the improvements released in all previous Office v. X
updates.) <http://tinyurl.com/284v95>

How to rebuild:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/rebuild.html>

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

I do a lot of recovery for Entourage X users that don't have the drive space
to do this. If you have a large drive, you should be able to rebuild.
