Make sure that all your accounts are selected in your Send and Receive All
schedule and that this schedule runs frequently enough for you.

This will work only when Entourage is not the foreground application. If
you leave Entourage in the foreground then none of these alerts will
display.

You can create a rule (each for POP, IMAP and Exchange) for all messages
that will display the notification even while Entourage is in the
foreground.

1. Select Tools --> Rules...
2. Click the New button.
3. Make a new rule and name it something like "Display notifications
while Entourage is front".
4. Set the rule to apply to "All Messages".
5. Set the action to "Display notification".
6. De-select the option "Do not apply rules to other messages that meet
these criteria".
7. Click the OK button to save your changes.
8. Drag this new rule from the bottom of the rules list to the top so
that it triggers first.

If you created a POP rule then you'll need to recreate this rule for any
IMAP and Exchange accounts you also have.

You can optionally add the "Animate icon" action to your rule as well.

To re-enable the confirmation dialogs you'll need to return to Entourage
menu --> Preferences... --> General Preferences --> Notifications and
click the "Reset Confirmation Dialogs" button.

Hope this helps!

I use Jolly's Play Sound application with a rule to get customized sounds
for certain categories of mail. To me this is much more useful than the
default sounds that do not distinguish between important mail and spam.

See this page for using custom sounds with Entourage. You can even create
your own sounds or use computer voices to announce your mail. For example,
you could have the AppleScript say ³Mail from Dad².

Rule to Play Sound

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/sounds.html>

For example, I was in the kitchen this AM and heard my alert sound for my
support folder. I was easily alerted to a reply even though I was not at my
computer. I have one sound that plays an alert that you can hear all over
the house. I only use it when I'm expecting something really important. :)

Hope this helps!
