Entourage EWS vs Windows Outlook 2007

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Sorry...this is my second post but the frustration is a lot.
My hope with Entourage ews was to get rid of windows and get the mail on my mac from company exchange server (note I always worked outside the company network).

I get the mail on outlook 2007 without any problem.

With ews I get
- SSL error when I open the application
- I can see the mailboxes, but email is not downloading
- if I select to get only headers, they are downloaded, but then I cannot get the entire message by clicking "get entire message"

Why outlook works? Why entourage EWS no?

Sorry, but the iphone with activesync (it is a different thing, I know) works and most probably Snow leopard 10.6 will work also!!!!

Sorry, I hope somebody has some ideas.

Thank you!

Why outlook works? Why entourage EWS no?

Do you meet the requirements?

Microsoft Exchange Server: Connectivity to Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft
Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580) or later version.

Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580)
must be applied to both the Mailbox server and the Client Access server
roles.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.1 Update required to install the final
release of EWS.

Hello Diane!
Thank you for your reply.
On my side is ok.

On the server side the company run version 8.124.0 of exchange that I believe also meet the requirements.

I have to correct myself. According to OWA the server is running 8.1.240.0 thar is pre rollup 4. Right?
So this is the issue.

Diane,
Actually the It Dept. confirmed that they installed already Roll Up 8 despite what the OWA server shows.

So EWS should works, but it doesn't.

Are you sure you are connecting to the proper server??
In my case, I had to switch from the back-end server to the front-end
OWA server with Entourage EWS.
I was also experiencing something similar to what you are describing
when connecting from outside the LAN (the server was blocking outside WS
traffic).

Hello Conretin,
Entourage set automatically the Exchange server to:
<https://autodiscover.mydomain.com/ews/Exchange.asmx>
(outlook is doing the same)

I get a SSL error at startup, I can see all the folders, but if I select to get only headers, they are downloaded, but then I cannot get the entire message by clicking "get entire message".
If I choose to get always all messages they are not downloaded.

I setup the server to <https://mail.mydomain.com/owa>
it connects but I do not see any folder. Same problem with Entourage 2008.

So far Entourage never worked for me....maybe I have to hope for Snow Leopard.

Honestly I would prefer Entourage.....

Hello Conretin, Entourage set automatically the Exchange server to:

the same)

That sounds just about right.

I get a SSL error at startup, I can see all the folders, but if I select
Ito get only headers, they are downloaded, but then I cannot get the
Ientire message by clicking "get entire message". f I choose to get
Ialways all messages they are not downloaded.

I wonder whether it is due to the SSL error. Can you solve it?? Is it a
matter of simply importing the proper SSL root certificate?
In any case, it should be the same server Outlook uses to connect
through WS.
I setup the server to <https://mail.mydomain.com/owa> it connects but I
do not see any folder. Same problem with Entourage 2008.

I suspect this server is not offering Web Services.
So far Entourage never worked for me....maybe I have to hope for Snow
Leopard.

Snow Leopard is rumoured to be also using Web Services. You might have
the same problems there.

Hi!
Thank you for your reply.

The SSL error I get is the following:

"Unabe to establish a secure connection to <servername> because the server name or ip address does not math the name or ip address on the servers certificate.
If you continue the information you view and send will be encrypted but will not be secure"

Of course everything is possible. Maybe this warning is the issue.
The certificate sent to Outlook is the same sent to Entourage, but Outlooks works! As you pointed out!

I am not expert on this certificate issue. Can I install a certificate on client side? where to find it?

Hi Massimo,

Well Outlook is not very picky on certificate issues. To be honest, it's
a security issue in Outlook and it's hard to blam Entourage for doing
the rirhgt thing :-\
I am not expert on this certificate issue. Can I install a certificate
on client side? where to find it?

You need to contact the server administrator and ask him to provide a
corrected certificate. Obviously this one is not correct.
That's the only way I am afraid :-\

I would like just to close this thread saying the Snow Leopard is working fine.
I will stay with it.
It is a pity that Entourage is not working.

It is a pity that Entourage is not working.

Entourage is working for me on Snow Leopard using EWS. I can't see the
previous messages so not sure what was tried before.
