Entourage freezes on startup

I have Entourage 2004 on a Mac OS 10.3. Every time I open it I get the
spinning beach ball. There is mail in the "outbox" so I'm not sure if that is
hanging it up. I can do nothing with it. How do I get it to function again? I
tossed preferences. No help. How do I get it unfroze to even troubleshoot it?
