First make sure you have downloaded the entire message. I would remove
attachment from the message and open it in with Adobe Reader or Preview.

Yes, we've had this issue as well. It's only happened to us once. I had the
users force quit entourage and read/delete the email from their outlook
webmail. Didn't dig any deeper or do anything to solve the problem, let me
know if you've found a solution. I also noticed the PDF in the message would
open fine in Acrobat, but crash preview.

Thanks

It sounds like the file is so big it's causing problems in Entourage. Turn
off preview pane and open the message.

View --> Preview Pane --> None

It could be that the message is only partly downloaded. Hold Shift key down
when launching Entourage to disable schedules from firing. This should allow
you to open the message after you turn off the preview pane.

You're not speaking to Microsoft here. We're all Entourage users just
like you. We can only offer suggestions. This isn't official Microsoft
support.

I don't think the problem with your PDFs is size but rather complexity.
Are you creating PDFs from files that have a lot of vector art or have a
lot of elements? on the pages?

Are you creating multi-page PDF files? Have you tried just one page at a
time to locate which page is causing problems?

Are you embedding and sub-setting all fonts at 100%? How many fonts are
in the document? Are any of them unusual-looking or highly decorative?

I suggest you try to locate the elements that are causing the problem by
deleting half the items on the page, creating the PDF and testing. If
rendering is still slow then delete half of what's left and repeat. Do
this until you hit whatever is causing the PDF to render so slowly.

Hope this helps!

I still suggest going through the steps to see if something within the
PDF is triggering the problem in Entourage. At least you'll have an idea
of whether or not you can do something to avoid it and you'll be able to
provide Microsoft feedback to fix the problem.

Additionally, Entourage uses the same engine as Safari to display PDFs.
Save the PDF to your Desktop and then use File --> Open in Safari and
see what happens there.

Bill,

the pdf can be displayed well in Safari.

Can someone help me about this.. can I send this file to you and see if your entourage will hung up?

I wanted to do what you suggest however we have so many deadlines to meet and project to finish.

I've tested some pdfs that had trouble in Entourage. Entourage would seem to
hang but eventually would show the message. If you want to send me a test
example, send the message you received with the pdf and archive (zip) the
file.
