Entourage HTML emails converted to plaintext by Exchange 2007?

Jens Lorenz

Hello!

After moving my mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007, all HTML mails
send to external recipients are being converted to plaintext.

Mails send to internal recipients stay HTML.

The are no rules on the Hub Transport that would convert mails. The default
("Individual User Preferences") is being used.

The Entourage clients connect to Exchange using WebDAV (OWA).

Jens

Hi Jens!

Nothing in Entourage will convert your HTML messages on the fly to plain
text. The problem may not lie with your Hub Transport server but it most
likely is with some part of your Exchange Server system.

I suggest you post your question in the microsoft.public.exchange.admin
newsgroup where someone with more expertise with Exchange Servers may be
able to assist you.

Hope this helps!

Hello!

OK, I will try this as well.
I'm sure ist not Entourage doing this as it started after moving to Exchange
2007 (without further changes on the client), but it does only affects
Entourage clients.

That's not surprising. Entourage connects via WebDAV whereas Outlook
will connect via MAPI and other clients may connect via POP or IMAP.
Exchange has a lot of connection methods. Probably something is wrong
with the WebDAV connection. The Exchange Server folks may understand
what to do.

Good luck!

Hello!

I found the problem - or should I say bug?
It seems to be a bug in Exchange 2007. When the Exchange rich-text format
options are set to "Determined by individual user settings", the problem
occurs, when setting the option tp "Always use" the mail is being delivered
as expected (in HTML as it was been send).

The same setting was in place on our Exchange 2003 server, so I assume it's
a bug in 2007.

I did some research into the option and it looks as if Exchange 2007
misinterprets the mail format.

If the option "Always use" is active, Exchange won't check for any client
commands (e.g. not sending RTF to certailn users) but will forward any RTF
mail - also the non-RTF from Entourage (which is HTML - but thats probably
the bug...).

Thanks for the post, Jens! I'll forward this to one of our Exchange MVPs
and see what he thinks.
