Entourage icon moves and disappears from dock

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Wherever drag the Entourage icon to in the dock, it seems to jump back to the far right position where it goes when it's opened. If I restart the computer, the icon disappears from the doc completely.

Any suggestions?

I suspect your Dock Preferences are toast. I would drag them to the
trash (do not empty) and reboot (then you can empty the trash).

Merci beaucoup,

but, how do i drag the dock preferences to the trash. They don't seem to want to be dragged.

In Finder, go to your home folder Library>Preferences folder. In that,
locate the file:
com.apple.dock.plist

Delete or trash that file. If necessary, authenticate with your admin
password.

Normally, when you open an application it appears in the Dock in "last"
position. You can command hold an icon to move it's place in the Dock. You
can select to "keep in Dock" so the icon will stay where you place it and
always be available.

If you have not selected to "keep in Dock it will disappear when you restart
your computer.

Drag and drop your icon into the Dock where you'd like it to stay before
launching Entourage.

Okay, I've tried deleting the dock plist and then restarting. That doesn't work either.
5 seconds after i move the Entourage icon in the dock, it moves back to the original position on the right side of the dock. Even though i've checked "keep in dock," as soon as i close Entourage or restart the computer, Entourage's icon is gone from the dock.
Any other suggestions?
thanks.

What happens if you test this in a new User?

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test dragging
Entourage to the Dock in the new User.

Thanks. Good thought to try a new user. I suspect that will work. The only icon problem seems to be Entourage. For instance Word's icon stays where it should and doesn't disappear. just entourage's icon.
Assuming the dock works fine in another identity, do you have any suggestions for my problem?

If it is your User's folder, you will have to find the corrupt preference
file. It's much like troubleshooting preferences in classic. Remove add, add
back a few at a time and test.

It might not be a Microsoft preference.
