Entourage Mac -- thinks it's offline when it's not?

Running Entourage Mac 2008 on Powerbook G4, 1.67GB, 250GB HD, 1.5GB
RAM. Entourage has run fine since last April. Used Entourage at work
all day on same computer, no problems.

Came home today after work and rebooted Mac, started Entourage.
Entourage starts, does not crash, however acts as if there is no
internet connection. Does not check Outlook server. No folders
updated.

All other internet applications run fine, including Safari, Mail.app,
iTunes, etc.

Have removed com.microsoft.entourage-type Prefs from ~/Library/
Preferences to no effect.

Have selected "work offline" then unselected "work offline" to no
effect.

Little Snitch network filter is OFF.

Restart/reboot does not change situation.

Created second mail account to talk to the Outlook server, no change.
Deleted it again so Entourage isn't confused. No change.

Both the iPhone and the PC successfully check mail through the same
WiFi network as the Mac so I'm confident there is no problem there.

I have a sneaking suspicion I've done something stupid but I don't
know what.

Anyone have any advice or troubleshooting recommendations?

Peter

Try Control-Clicking your Inbox in the folder list and choosing
Folder Properties > Empty Cache.

Interesting. After reading the online help I realized that "Empty
Cache" is one of the tabs under "Folder Properties". But "Folder
Properties" is greyed out on Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts.

Not to be too dumb, is this a further key to what's going on?

Create a new Identity in Entourage and enter the Exchange account info. When
it syncs back, are these options enabled?

Let's check to be sure you are fully updated. You should be running either
Entourage 2008 12.2.3 , or if you qualify for the EWS upgrade, 13.0.3

Requirements for EWS
Microsoft Exchange Server: Connectivity to Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft
Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580) or later version.

Update Rollup 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580)
must be applied to both the Mailbox server and the Client Access server
roles.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac updated to 12.2.1 or later.

Diane I apologize for not replying last night ... about 8PM EST I got
frustrated with this and went off to watch a movie on DVD with my
wife.

Took a look at the computer about 1030PM and Entourage was running
normally! (For the record we are running Entourage Mac 2008 v12.2.3.)

I did not turn off the computer or Entourage at 8PM .. I just got
frustrated and walked away.

Not sure what happened in the meantime. Entourage is running again,
normally, this morning (Thursday).

To be frank this is both confusing and disconcerting ... since I don't
know what caused it and/or fixed it, I can't say if it will happen
again. My suspicion is that our IT department was doing something with
the server which affected Entourage specifically but did not affect
iPhone or Outlook (PC) 2007 syncing.

Again thank you for your support and good suggestions.

Best Regards // Peter

It's always nice to have an answer, but often it's not the case. Your guess
that your server was changed seems a likely explanation. Getting them to
admit it or even know they had broken than fixed it is another matter all
together.
