Entourage stalls downloading emails from internet provider

Snow Leopard: Entourage 8 version 12.2.4

Trying to help out a coworker here with a funky issue. After she got back
from vacation, she had a TON of emails sitting on our ISP¹s server and they
wouldn¹t download into entourage. It would bring down a few and then get
stuck and give the spinning beach ball. I went into the web version of our
ISP¹s email and we went through and deleted her junk email. Once we did
that and restarted entourage, all the emails come through. Figured this was
a one time issue because of the amount of emails.

WELLLLL, now she has to do this EVERY morning when she first brings up
entourage. We¹re only talking about 15 or so emails each day and none of
them have attachments. It continues to get stuck downloading after a few
make it through and then the dreaded beach ball. She force quits and then
logs on to ISP¹s web email, deletes a few and then then they come through.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling entourage for her but it still
continues.

You can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage and
see if you experience the same problem.

Normally, you see this only for a corrupt message on the server that is
blocking other emails. I¹ve seen even small simple text messages be the
cause, but since you are seeing this every day, something else is at play
here. Testing in a new Identity will eliminate database corruption.

Normally, re-installing never fixes issues like this. Send & Receive are the
hardest to track down since so many factors come into play.

When you say new identity, do I "Switch Identities" Do I need to make sure
to do a back up? And what is the best way to back up Entourage. I've
always just grabbed the Main Identity folder and backed that up.

Switch Identity under Entourage in the Menu bar and select create a New
Identity.

This is totally separate from the Main Identity so there is no need to
backup prior to creating a new Identity.
