Entourage will not download Gmail IMAP headers only.

My problem:
Entourage will NOT download any messages to any folders at all when "Always download complete message bodies" in UNCHECKED in Account Preferences > Options (this means that only the Headers should be downloaded initially).

Is this problem acknowledged to occur for *all* IMAP server types in the current version of Entourage 2008? Or does it just occur for GMail's IMAP server?

Regardless, this is extremely frustrating and I hope there is a fix for this issue. And YES, I have triple-checked my account settings. Email DOES download if I elect to download message bodies in their entirety. And YES, I already tried verifying, then rebuilding and even creating a completely new database. Nothing has helped.

Please, someone, I'm hoping you can tell me some good news here...

My comments are inline with yours...

I'm not sure sure this option means "headers only". I interpret it as
meaning "download the entire text of the message (not including
attachments)". The body of most messages (the text part) is often just a
few K. A plain text message may be something like 4K, which is very
insignificant. An HTML message may be up to 25K on average. Still very
insignificant.

Entourage must have some threshold defined for this option but I don't
see that number published anywhere. If I had to guess then I'd say that
limit is probably closer to 100K before it stops downloading body text
and you must manually download the rest.

Regardless, this is extremely frustrating and I hope there is a fix

I have to ask why this is extremely frustrating for you? How are you
know that it's *not* downloading the full message? You'd literally have
to allow your IMAP account to connect and download what it can, go
offline, drag your message bodies to your Finder and choose Get Info to
determine the sizes of your messages.

Also, if you haven't noticed, you can select "Partially receive messages
over..." just below the first option. This may be what you're needing
instead. Set that to something low such as 5K.
