Entourage won't synch properly with ICAL

I see there has been some traffic on this issue. Nice to know I¹m not
unique. I recently upgraded my Imac G-5 w/ 1 GB RAM from OSX.4.10 to
Leopard OS X.5.1. I use Entourage 2004, Bld 11.3.6. It is my main Personal
Info app. I have a Blackberry 8700 with which I used to synch seamlessly
with Entourage. Didn¹t use ICAL or Address Book much. Since upgrading,
Blackberry won¹t synch with Entourage...despite all the fixes I read about
on various blogs...with Pocket Mac.
After a frustrating week or so, I installed Missing Synch which requires
Entourage to synch with ICAL. I have set up the synch in Entourage
preferences, and used .Mac to effect a synch also.
Problem: If I record an event in ICAL it will migrate over to Entourage in a
day or two. But not vice verse. That is, if I record an event in
Entourage,(the one I use) it doesn¹t synch to ICAL...thus Missing Synch
doesn¹t transfer to Blackberry.
My time zones on all apps are the same.
Another wrinkle....I tried to publish my ICAL and got an error message,
saying it¹s corrupted.
Any ideas? All this since Leopard.

Sorry for the note being so convoluted...I¹d appreciate any wisdom. Thanks.

I see... You should check the Console looking for error messages there.
I suspect something is holding up your sync. Events should all sync in a
matter of minutes at most.
My time zones on all apps are the same.

- turn of SyncService syncing in the Entourae preferences.
- destroy the Entourage calendar in iCal
- activate SyncService syncing in Entourage again and tell the app to
replace SYncService data with Entourage data.

I am not familiar with the term "Console." Could you explain? Never heard

Console is a utility in your Applications --> Utility folder.

As your computer performs tasks, messages are sent back and forth between
applications and parts of the system. These messages concern system events,
dialog text, errors, status, and other communications. Most of these
messages aren¹t shown to you because they provide more technical detail than
you need. However, records of these messages are stored in the log database
or in log files. If a problem has occurred, you might be able to find
technical details about the cause in one of these files.

To view a log:

1. Open Console, located in the Utilities folder in your Applications
folder.

2. If the Log list is not visible, click Show Log List in the Console
toolbar. Click the triangle next to a log to see other available logs.

I agree that the mesages are a little cryptic, but it clearly points out
to a problem.

You could use a simple script in the Script Editor to figure out what
the events are.

The following script will tell you when the event 338840 starts so that
you can figure out which event it is in Entourage:

tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
set thestart to start time of event id 338840 as string
display dialog thestart
end tell



You could then consider deleting the events generating error messages in
the Console log and see if it corrects the problem.

I see Corentin has replied. Reading the Console logs is best left to
developers, but as Corentin has shown, users can get some info to help point
them to a solution.

As far as syncing goes, Corentin is the expert on this list.

To eliminate problems with Entourage, create a new User in System
Preferences. Open Entourage in the new User and enter your Account info for
testing. Does it sync in the new User?

If yes, then test with your current Identity. You'll need to move the
Identity folder to Shared so you can drag it to your new User's Microsoft
User Data folder. Just remember to move it back after testing. It's copied
to the new User so your data is safe.

If no, then it's a problem with your OS. I would apply the combo updater.

If the Identity works in the new User, then you can eliminate Entourage and
your Identity as the problem. It's your User's folder that contains the
problem. I would use the steps to here to reset.

Once you know where the problem originates, you can usually solve the
problem.

Ahem, let's say I've had a lot of problems myself and tried to find ways
to work around them.
I'm just sharing the few tricks I found ;-)
