Entourage X Advanced rebuild lost info. How to upgrade toretrieve?

T

Tamara Holt

I keep my whole life on email. I am a writer and run my own business. I
need my back emails! I am terrified that I lost them. Please help if you
can.

Some of this may seem rudimentary, but my understanding of entourage is just
that.

Macbook Pro

OS X 10.4.11

Entourage 10.1.1

POP email account

Step-by-step here¹s what happened and what I did.

1) Entourage wouldn¹t open Inbox. Message said to rebuild the database.

2) Did typical rebuild.

3) Got message that database was full.

4) Restarted. Ran disk utility. Did typical rebuild again.

5) Same message: Database full.

6) Ran disk utility from startup disk. Fixed disk issues.

7) Tried opening Entourage. Same message. Database full.

8) Looked at entourage.mvps.org. Read that drive needs 2X the amount of
space as what is in the identity and a few old databases at 3.99 MB each. I
only had 9 GB of space (120 GB drive) so I deleted some old databases (not
the most recent couple) and moved my itunes music folder to an external
drive. I also copied my entire documents folder onto my external drive as
backup. The last database was dated November 13, 2008.

9) Tried typical rebuild again. It didn¹t work.

10) Tried advanced rebuild. Held breath. (January 3, 2009)

11) Entourage opened. The inbox has a few very old messages plus the
messages that have been kept on the server since I last purged it (December
1, 2008). There is nothing in the Sent folder. The database is 3.39 GB
according to the file list.

12) Today: This is what the Main Identity folder looks like:

I hope and imagine that I can retrieve the 3.99 GB that are in my last
update from November 13.

I purchased Office 2008, hoping that after I upgrade that I will be able to
access the database, but don¹t know if it¹s better to import back into
office X (or get 2004) or how to do any of that.

I am pretty dim about all of this and recently suffered a head injury and
this is very hard for me to work through. If anyone could help me with
detailed step by step, I would really appreciate it!!!!

I have an appointment at the Mac Genius Bar tonight at 9PM, but think I will
get better help here...no?

Thank you very much.

Hi Tamara!

You've hit a brick wall limitation with Entourage X. The Database file
can be no larger than 4GB and yours is 3.99GB (practically 4GB).

According to this page

"Size Limits of Database"
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/size.html>

you should have received warning messages well before you hit that 4GB
limit unless you haven't been applying updates. I'm going to assume your
version of Entourage X is not up to 10.1.2. Correct?

Entourage 2004 and 2008 have no size limit. You may be able to upgrade
and open your Database afterward but that's not a guarantee.

Diane Ross, who also posts in this newsgroup has helped folks convert
and recover Entourage X Databases for other folks. You may want to
contact her here: <http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/per/> for services and
pricing.

Hope this helps!
