Entourage (X and 2004) delete stored messages!!

I and another user of Entourage have experienced the same
issue. For soem strange reason, after some time (more
than 6 months or so) suddenly and randomly, Entourage
will delete some or all the contents of a subfolder
folder created to store certain Emails.

I had created client folders and rules that redirect
incoming EMail form those clients to those folders and
then one day, i suddenly found that 2 differnt client
folders were empty.
Strangely enough, the same client who's Emails I lost,
also lost all the Emails I had sent to her! Yet, we both
retained the Emails we had sent to each other iin our
sent items bin. That was on Entourage for Office X.
I've upgraded recently to Office Mac 2004, and I seem to
have lost several Emails from another 2 client folders,
without explanation.

Anyone have a CLUE as to what could possibly be causing
this? I haven't found any mention of it anywhere, and yet
both myself and my client have expericend this.

You haven't specified what type of mail account you are using.

I have had this happen to me with Entourage 2004 working with an
SBS2003 server running Exchange2003 over a webdav link (ie.
https://........)
For me the problem seems to be related to synchronization code. One
evening I went to bed leaving my machine running and the next morning
the folders had disappeared (only remote folders on my exchange
server, local folders were okay.) The second time it happened to me
seemed to occur after I moved from one location to another, switching
from remote wired access to remote wireless access. My powerbook had
been to sleep and Entourage had not been closed. After waking up and
performing a sync remote folders dissappeared off my exchange server.
When this happens the inbox temporarily vanishes but reappears after a
short period of time.
The folders I had created were at the same level as the inbox on
exchange. Sub-folders that had been deleted and placed in the Deleted
Items folder were saved!. I also went to OWA to check if the folders
were still on the server, just not visible to Entourage 2004, but they
had disappeared completely.

This appears to be a major, major bug that needs to be addressed with
some urgency. By default any email application worthy of consideration
should err on the side of retaining emails in any situation where
there is a discrepancy in synchronizing local and remote copies.

This has happened twice to me since I've been testing Entourage 2004
settings against our Exchange 2003 server (12 hours of usage). Only
after I make some change to the account settings, Entourage deletes
all non-system folders from my mailbox on the Exchange server. They
are not moved to the deleted items, nor the deleted item retention
area. They just vanish... Poof!

I too am having this problem on two different machines.

(I started writing this post before I found this thread.. )

I have two new mac X users in an all MS XP/SBS2K3 network. These two
just recently started using Entourage 2004 with Exchange 2003 IMAP.
Syncing worked well for a week or so, and then out of the blue, the
first user lost huge amounts of email and random mail subfolders.
They had completely disappeared. The server also showed no sign of
them either. After exmerging all the missing mail back to the users
mailbox from a backup, Entourage downloaded the new mail and it has
worked fine since for him. The problem is that it has happened again,
but to the other user. Thinking this was going to be a one time
incident for her, I restored the mail like before, but it happened
again the very next day. About 1gb of mail gone. It seemed to only
affect subfolders. Root folders still had all data. If anyone has
any clues, I would appreciate the help.

I am having this same exact issue as well. Has anyone found an answer to
this problem?

Has this issue been resolved? This just happened to a client
yesterday. Entourage 2004, IMAP, Exchange 2003. Emails, folders,
calendar items... all vanished.

I'm going to try performing a recovery from a backup, but can anyone
help with this?

Thanks,
Joseph
