Entourage X lost recognition of html

R

rpitcairn

Suddenly Entourage will not show any content of messages that have
html formatting. The preview pane or opened email is blank though
there may be a subject line in the email listing. If I choose "edit
message" then I see the entire email content. It goes from blank
window to a complete email. Is there a corrupted preferences file that
is responsibe? I am running Mac OS 10.2.6.
Suggestions welcome.

Work through the suggestions on The Entourage Help Page:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html#Anchor-64>

Go to Entourage -> Mail & News Preferences, click the "Read" tab, and make
sure the option to "Display complex HTML in messages" is checked.

If that doesn't help, drag the message to the Desktop, and then go to
Entourage -> Switch Identity. Create a new identity and then drag the
message in. Can you read it? If so, go to Entourage -> Turn Off Office
Notifications, and then go to Entourage -> Switch Identity. Hold down
Option and double-click your identity. When the Rebuild dialog box comes
up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild.

Hi Mickey,

I have the same Problem like Richard and following your tips I couldn't
resolve the problem.
Entourage still crashes, when I check the option "Display complex HTML in
messages"....

Of course I tried to fix the problem also with the Rebuild-options.
This doesn't work...

Any help is still appreciated!

thanx,
Torsten

I have a similar issue. However, I do see the message in the preview
pane and when I open the email message. The html tags (http:// ...)
are not evaluated. They always show up as plain text.

I made sure that view complex html is turned on in my Entourage
preferences. Allow network access when displaying complex html is
also turned on.

I am using Mac OS 10.2.6. However, this problem did not start when I
installed 10.2.6. I was successfully running under 10.2.6 until a few
weeks ago. The loss of html seemed to come out of the blue. Now that
I think about it. It may be related to the time I installed the Mac
OS 10.2.6 security update 2003-06-09.

Did you install this security update? If so, does it match up with
the time frame when your email no longer recognized html?

No, I still don't have this installed (but I will do later).

I also use Mac OS 10.2.6. I also worked with Entourage running 10.2.6
without any problem and when the issue (crashing, when clicking on a
HTML-Mail) first occurred I did not have installed any new software...

Today I noticed also, that IE 5.2.3 crashes during launch.
Until now I could not fix this problem...

Uff, it's annoying.

Greetings,
Torsten

I haven't had any issues with IE 5.2.3. It is working well for me.

Our issues seem to be related but not identical. I can open html
messages. Entourage does not crash. It's just that none of the HTML
syntax/tags are evaluated. The message comes through as plain text
with a lot of <html...> garbage in them.

Before installing the 10.2.6 security update you may want to read
about it on the Discussion board at apple.com. Some people are very
confident that this is what caused their issues with Entourage.
Unfortunately, I have not seen any solutions posted.

How do you know what version of OFFICE X you have? What APP (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Excel???) do you do a GET INFO on? My Entourage X says 10.1.1
Service Rel. 1

Well, you do have the latest version. But, you can see the latest update
you've applied by going to HD/Applications/Microsoft Office
X/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin, going to File -> Get Info, and then
checking the version number.

Because the most recent updates have not updated any of the applications,
Entourage is still 10.1.1. PowerPoint, which has not been updated since
SR-1, is still at 10.1.0.
