envelopes - read and unread

When I check a list of incoming messages with the
envelopes closed - after i put my cursor on the message
(but do not open) when I move to the next message the
window is open on the one that I touched but did not
open - what am I doing wrong Thanks

I think what you need to do is go to Tools, Options, Other, Preview Pane.
