Equation Editor doesn't appear in Word 2004

I replaced my Office X with Office 2004, and now the
Equation Editor doesn't appear in the "Insert Object" menu
in Word. In addition, several of the symbols in the
"Insert Symbol" dialog appear as question marks.

If I were on a PC, I see that MS has standalone versions of
Equation Editor to download directly, but I don't see
something similar for the Mac.

I reinstalled a few times, to no avail...

Thoughts or flashes of inspiration welcome.

I don't know what could have gone wrong, but since you had
Equation Editor for Office X, you probably know you don't get it
by doing a standard install; you must use the Office 2004 Setup
Assistant and do a custom install. In step 5 of the Setup
Assistant, you'll find Equation Editor listed as the first item
under Office Tools. I don't believe it's checked by default, so
you'll have to check it.

There's no need to uninstall Office -- just run Setup again and
choose the items you want to add. It won't change any of the
settings or documents in your current installation.

The default install location for Equation Editor is Applications
Microsoft Office 2004 > Office > Equation Editor.

I don't know what you're thinking of, because Microsoft doesn't
have this available for download. Did you mean available for
installation from the Office CD? If there are ANY stand alone
versions of our Equation Editor out there for download, I don't
know of them.
