Equation Editor equations turning into pictures

I have a document with several hundred equations in it. When I opened
it today, the equations were all formated at pictures. I can no longer
open them with equation editor. Has anybody had this problem before?
Is there any way to get the "pictures" to turn back into equations?

I suspect that you have a new version of Word and that you did not
install the equation editor.

If you have a lot of equations, I recommend that you buy Mathtype. I
would not do without it. It installs additional items in the menu such
as inoine equations, equations with numbers on the right, on the left,
and so on, and allows you to modify equations into various formats.

You left some really important information out of your post -- what
version of Word are you using, and what format were the equations
originally in (Equation Editor or MathType)? We have an article on our
web site about this problem, and although it describes the problem
pretty well, the solution won't be of much help if you're using
Equation Editor and not MathType:
