Equation editor odd problem...

C

Chris Campbell

I've got quite an annoying problem with Word 2003.

When I create an equation using equation editor some of the symbols change
and distort when embedded in the document. I've looked through all of my old
documents which were fine at the time, but now don't make any sense due to
most of the symbols in equations being distorted/changed.

It happened to me before so I reinstalled and it was fine for a period, but
it's came back to haunt me. I suspected it was maybe an activation problem or
something, but my copy if fully activated and up-to-date.

Anybody got any ideas?
Cheers,
Chris.

Not sure what you mean by "distorted". The only thing I know of that will
cause an equation to display with "changed" symbols is for the Style
settings to be incorrect or for a font to be missing. With Equation Editor
open, make sure these Styles are set to Symbol font: LCGreek, UCGreek,
Symbol.

As it turns out you are correct Bob, thank you. Word was putting equations
into the wingdings font because for some unknown reason the symbol font
became corrupted. Replacing the symbol font file with those from another
computer did the trick. It's the second time that it has happened to me
though so I'm curious as to what is causing the symbol font to be corrupted.

Cheers,
Chris Campbell

At least you had a good Symbol font you could replace it with. Glad to hear
that solved the problem.
