Equation Editor problem

Its also on my diagram captions - is this something to do with them being
"fields" that can be updated - does that mean the grey wont show up if I
send this down for printing?
It's because they are fields, yes. The gray won't print. There's a setting
under Tools | Options, View tab, that lets you control field shading. Set
it as desired.

For some reason, when I opened some documents that I wrote last week, the
equation objects all have accquired a grey background. Also when I now
insert a new equation object, it has a grey background, how has this
happened, and how can I fix it

thanks, I have no idea how that turned itself on, but I appreciate the heads
up
I was looking in the "VIew" and "Format" menu, and didn't think of
Tools/Options/View !
