Equation editor sometimes missalligns fractions

Word2000. I often need to put math equations in my docs.
For fractions I use the form where numerator & denominator
are in line. Sometimes this works fine, even when I enter
several lines, one above the other. But other times, when
I enter a second line, The denominator on the previous
line shifts to the left. The more line I add, the further
it shifts. It will go wrong, then right then wrong again,
all on the same doc. Even on the same page.
Hope somebody can help.

Martin, in the situation above, you're pressing Enter while you're
still in the denominator of the first fraction. Make sure you're out
of the denominator before you start a new line. You can verify you're
outside the denominator by the position and length of the "insertion
point" (i.e., the vertical and horizontal cursors).
