Equation Editor

This may not be the right newsgroup, but I can't locate one that
is specific to my problem. I can't get Equation Editor to work in
my Word setup. I am running Windows XP Professional and MS Office
2000. All components seem to work well except I can't get
Equation Editor to come alive. I have beeen through the Microsoft
Office - Install/Uninstall - Add/Remove, process, and it gave me
a "successful installation" reading. What am I overlooking?

If there is a better suited newsgroup, please steer me to it.

Hi Gordon,

How are you trying to bring it to life. The way to do it is select Object
from the Insert menu and then select "Microsoft Equation 3.0" from the
object list.

the mailmerge.fields might be a better place as Bob Mathews from Design
Science who produce that utility seems to pop up there quite often when
someone reports difficulties with it.

Please respond to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be
interested.

Hope this helps

Doug, thanks for the info. I tried this a couple of times and got
a popup that indicated that the installation had completed, but
it still wouldn't work. I tried it one more time, and this time
it worked. I still have a problem, though. I need to use
different fonts and attributes like Bold, Colored and Italicized.
I can't find any means for changing any of these, except to
change these settings for the whole equation. Maybe I need to
order the $125 real equation editor. I am thinking of downloading
the trial version to see if it will do what I need.

Gordon,

When you activate Equation Editor, be aware that the menus at the top
of the window are Equation Editor menus and no longer MS Word menus.
To set the attributes like bold and italic, go to the Style menu and
select Define. As to the color attribute, Equation Editor does not
support this, but the professional version of EE does -- MathType. A
30-day evaluation version is available.
