Equipment V/s Human Resource

Dear All,

MS Project doesn't differentiate between an Equipment and a human resource,
though there is an option to define material.

In this scenario if human and equipment (lets say machinery) both are
assigned to a task, how would we update the timesheet for equipment resource?
What is the best practise for assigning equipment resource?

Two choices:

Use project server auth on the machine accounts and login to these account
to send updates
Update the status of these assignments in Project Pro
