From the Tables and Borders toolbar in Word 2003 and earlier. It's in
Customize in the Table category (in Word) and can be dragged to a toolbar.

The corresponding command in Excel might be Clear Contents or Clear
Formatting (both in the Edit category with "eraser" icons).

Ah! The mist clears. In Word 2007 it is already on the table design ribbon
tab.
