I have MS Office Student and Teacher Ed 2003 and am unable to install the
Service Pack 1 update. I have tried several times with no success. Help
anyone? I am not that computer savvy, so please be gentle with me! Thanks in
advance.

Is this from scanning for upddates on the ms site, or are you downloading
teh sp1 as a single file and installing?
What is the exact error?

Interesting thing is that when I tried to download individual components of
SP1 when the automatic download for the entire thing wouldn't install, I kept
getting messages indicating that the individual updates had been installed
earlier. Yet, I cannot download other updates because ms says I have to first
download SP1. The exact error (see subject line) is 0x51F. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

That error means that you must to insert the installation cd.
I found that after that I look for the downloades file into mi hd and run it
manually and the instalation proces ask for the cd.

Why don't say "please insert the instalation cd" ?
it's much simplier that throw a error that no one knows what supouse to means

Its interesting that many people have the same issue.
This issue happens because one or more of the files in the MSOCACHE folder
is corrupt. MSOCACHE is a hidden folder created at the root of the C: drive
(sometimes, D:\ or E:\ depending on free space availability). This folder
basically contains the installation files required for Office 2003.

What you need to do is to download LISTOOL.EXE from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A3-695B-42C3-9045-B812BA0FED3E&displaylang=en

Then, doubleclick on this. It will ask you to point to a destination folder
to extract the files. It will extract another file called "listool.exe" into
the destination that you provide.

1) Double click on this listoo.exe.
Select the option "delete and disable LIS". Select "microsoft office edition"
and click on "delete". (In some extreme cases, you may want to disable every
software listed in there and delete them)

2) After this process, doubleclick again on listool.exe.
This time, select "enable LIS"
select "microsoft office edition" and click on "enable".

Now, try installing the update and it should work.

All the best folks !!
Ajith
