Error: 1025 RFC-822 format

J. Keith Putnam

Entourage X
OS 10.2.8

Have gotten this since adopting the "Exchange Aware" version. After Send &
Receive runs, if I then click on INBOX in my Exchange account, I get this
error. I seem to be receiving mail properly, otherwise.

Mail could not be received at this time.

The server returned the following error

The requested message could not be converted to an RFC-822 compatible
format. Please contact your administrator.

I still have this problem and have seen nothing that speaks to it.

I am beginning to enjoy this conversation with myself. I have learned that
my facility is running Exchange 5.5.

I have observed that I also get the error if I refresh the message list with
CMD-L.

Is this a taboo subject, or just a "who cares"?

If anyone cares to comment, it seems to me that Entourage sends different
messages to the server, based on whether it is making scheduled requests for
messages, requests initiated by the S&R button, or requests initiated by
selecting Inbox or CMD-L while in Inbox.

Peymon Gorkani, and others have posted inquiries about this problem. So far
as I can tell, we are all being ignored.

Have I done the right thing with my address, this time?

Have you actually done what the error message suggests and talk to your
administrator? What did they say? From the error message, it appears to be a
problem with the server, not Entourage.

I don't remember contacting my admin, but on your suggestion, and against my
better judgement, I did. Following are their suggestions:

Move the first message in the mailbox, it may be a problem.

Your mailbox is almost full, reduce messages or increase the storage
limit.

Remove/Redefine Entourage's link to the Exchange Server.

None of these efforts made any difference.

One thing you can do is see if a Mail.app IMAP account can connect to your
mail server. Or better yet Outlook Express on Windows if you have access. If
they have problems, then it's probably not Entourage.

I have used Outlook 2001 for OS9 and Outlook for Windows 2000(VirtualPC),
without getting such messages.

Those both use MAPI to connect to the Exchange server. Entourage connects
via IMAP. Unless IMAP is enabled on the Exchange server, Entourage will not
work.

I can't understand what information you are trying to give me. I have
submitted that I can send and receive mail any time, yet you are telling me
Entourage will not work. If I am sending and receiving mail, does that mean
that IMAP is enabled? If IMAP is enabled, why bother telling me Entourage
won't work, when I am trying to find out about a repeated error message?

Move all of the messages from your Inbox into a different folder. See if an
empty Inbox still gives you the same error. If not, it was probably one of
the messages that was in the Inbox that was causing the problem.

I moved all the messages from the Inbox to a subfolder, then I stepped
through all these folders. None of them gave an alert, yet, selecting the
Inbox did.

Is there a message count limit?

No limit. The next things to try are deleting the account (Tools:Accounts)
and recreating it. If that doesn't work, try creating a new identity
(Entourage:Switch Identity) and see if it works there.

On December 5th I wrote

I'm out of ideas, then. If you want to do a lot more digging such as
installing TCPflow and getting a network log of the server communication,
maybe we can figure out what's going on.
