Error 1321 when installing Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Alex

I am having problems installing Microsoft Office 2000
UPdate: Service Pack 3. I keep getting Installer error
messages type 1321 (e.g. "The installer has insufficient
privileges to modify this file
D:\PFiles\MSOffice\Office\EXCEL.EXE." or "The installer
has insufficient privileges to modify this file
D:\PFiles\MSOffice\Office\OUTLLIB.DLL.")

I did previously install Office 2000 SR1a update and
Windows Installer 2.0

What should I do?

Hi Alex,

Are you running the NTFS file system on your machine? If
so, it sounds as if either the local Admin group or the
System account does not have the correct permissions for
the Windows Installer to complete the patching or removal
of OffXP.

Try this:
1) Logon as a user who has local admin rights.
2) Open an instance of Windows Explorer and select the
D:\ drive (this same procedure may also need to be done
on the C:\ drive)
3) Right-click, choose Properties, and then click the
Security tab.
4) Make sure that the Adminstrators and System accounts
are listed and have Full Control of the entire drive
("This folder, subfolders, and files" under Advanced)
5) You may need to take ownership of the entire drive
before you can successfully reset the permissions on all
subcontainers and objects (click the Advanced button,
then Owner tab)
6) See if you can successfully apply the Off2000 SP3
update
now.

Thanks!
