Hi, solman1,
You don't mention if you looked at this article:
OFFXP: Error 1328 When You Apply Office XP Service Pack 1:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315152
or this one:
315063 - OFFXP: Error 1328 When You Apply Office XP Service Pack 1 to a
Workstation:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=315063
Also, it might help manage your expectations about escalation of issues if
you bear in mind that this is a peer support forum and is not regularly
staffed by Microsoft employees.
Here's a posting from one of these newsgroups that might help. I found this
by searching Google Groups. Credit goes to Bob Buckland:
The Office XP SP1 client patch should not be
a problem on released (gold) copies of Office XP,
it's possible that your copy is a pre-release
(almost gold) one. See if this information helps:
Error 1328 on Office XP ServicePack 1 (SP1)
-------------------------------------------
Here's what appears to be happening based
on reviewing SP1 patch log files that folks
provided who had Error 1328 when applying
the Office XP SP1 Client update (patch) to
their PC:
A. It doesn't appear to be a problem with
the Office XP SP1 patch itself, but the
news may not be good for some folks
B. If you are installing the Microsoft
Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) patches
the MS Installer will have created a pair
of log files for you each time you run SP1.
C. If you have Error 1328 (most often on
file MSAccess.exe or on a \Config.MSI\xxxx.TMP
file) then please check the log using
the following steps:
1. From [Start]=>Run type %temp%
2. When the Explorer window pops up go to the
\OHotfix\ folder you should see there
and locate the highest numbered
pair of logs that are named like this:
OHotFix(0000n).LOG
OHotFix(0000n)_MSI.LOG
where (0000n) is the sequential number for
each patch run.
The log files are plain text.
3. In Notepad/WordPad or MS Word open the
highest numbered OHotfix(0000n).LOG
and scroll down to find the line that reads:
"Getting the products to patch..."
4. Below the text you located in step 3
there will be a list of 'Products' that
the patch checks for. Locate the one that
includes this text:
"Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage
5. If the Version shown on the line in Step 4
is lower than 10.0.2627.01
(the Original Office XP Microsoft release)
then the Office XP SP1 download patch
from
http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates
or
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads won't
be ableto update your copy of Office XP.
6. If your version number is equal to
or higher than the value shown in
Step 5, then go to step 7. If it
is lower than the one in Step 5 then:
a. If you have purchased a Retail/OEM
copy you should contact your
software or PC-OEM hardware/software
supplier for a valid replacement product, or
b. If this is a volume license /Enterprise
Media copy then contact your Company or School
Administrator for a valid replacement (as these
are not sold by Microsoft or its authorized
dealers to individuals, except under a
Volume license agreement.
Note: Only Enterprise/Volume License copies of
Microsoft Office XP support Administrative
Setup (Setup /A). Retail and OEM copies
do not.

If you purchased Office XP software that appears
to now be pre-release (unofficial) software you
may want to contact the Microsoft Antipiracy folks
through the links on that site to report the
supplier and your experience.
