Although this says "install" Office and not "uninstall", it may help.

You receive an "Error 1402. Could not open key" error message when you run
Office 2000 Setup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/236427/

If it doesn't, try searching for that error message in Google. I found MANY
hits, one of them may help you.

I suspect that the registry entry pointed out is either not available or
corrupt. If its there, most likely you will not be able to modify or delete.
If nothing works out, try windows installer clean up utility to remove
office. This utility will certainly remove office.
