Error 1406 Installation Problem

Lynn Q

Hi there,

I originally posted this to the office.setup newsgroup, with no reply yet.
I've also posted to the WinXP Help and Support group (no reply yet there
either). In addition to the information below I tried running the Office
Update. It
downloads, but the installation fails, perhaps due to the 1406 error below.

Using Windows XP Pro SP2 and trying to install Upgrade version of Office Pro
2003. Get Error 1406 relating to registry permissions. The upgrade was
from Office Pro SR1 2000 (note: all Windows XP updates applied, and Office
2000 had all updates applied also).

Checked KB but couldn't find anything specific to the WinXP Pro and Office
20003 Pro scenario. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I
can get around it?

Also, my 2nd disk Business Contact Manager refuses to install. It gets to
approx 95% the way through the installation and then rolls back. Would this
have anything to do with the problems experienced with error 1406 on Disk 1?
Believe Excel and Word were problems, but there may have been a third app
that I missed.

The Office 2000 install was complete and when I Upgraded I followed the
Upgrade choice and system selected Run All from My Computer.

Hoping for assistance to solve these to glitches. Thanks so much!!

Lynn
