Error 1606: Cant Find Network Location

Hi There,

I have a problem with Word for windows. I have four user profiles on my
computer which runs using XP home edition. Three of the user profiles can
open, edit, cut/paste, copy, save, email etc. word documents without any
problems. The fourth however cannot access the program or any docs created by
it, directly from thier icons, I keep getting a window saying that windows is
configuring Office 2000, followed immediately by an "Error 1606: Could not
access network location" After canceling these messages about 3/4 times, Word
launches, allowing me then to load Word Documents.

I have moved, re-named, deleted and re-created various documents and icons,
including the one pinned to the start menue, but this has had no effect. I
have checked registry values as suggested in the microsoft support web pages
and all is as it should be, and I have tried to use the Detect and Repair
within the program itself, but this just returns the same error as previously
described.

I would be most grateful if someone out there could give me a clue, or point
me in the direction of a solution. Unfortunately, I can't just reinstall
Office because I don't have an installation CD, the software came already
installed.

Cheers in advance

Rob

If it works for three profiles, then the user profile for the other user is
broken. In my experience it is not worth more than simply renaming
normal.dot to normal.bad IN THAT PROFILE and trying reregistering Word in
Windows. From Start | Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /r

and press enter. Nothing will seem to happen, but Word will have registered
again.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, delete the profile and create a new
one. Profile problems can waste a huge percentage of your lifetime before
you find the problem.
