Error 5002 attempting to login to PS 2002

Hi All,

I have trolled the groups and the MS KBs looking for the answer, but no
luck so far (even though similar topics appear a dozen or so times in
this group...)


Config:

Windows 2000 Server, configured as a domain controller
SQL 2000 SP3
Project Server 2002 SP1, including SharePoint
Windows 2000 Pro and XP Pro clients


The Problem:

I get the message:
" You have entered an incorrect user name/password combination. (5002)
" whenever I try to log on to the PWA site using one of the accounts
configured to use Windows Authentication (domain\username). I can log
in to the machine using the accounts, and even start the PWA while
logged in. If, however, I log out of PWA and then try to authenticate
at the lgnps.asp screen, it fails with the message above. This also has
something to do with the fact that I cannot upload projects from
Project 2000.

All of the accounts that use PS authentication (including
Administrator) work fine.

I can log on to PWA with the site admin account, and have checked that:

- it is set for Mixed Mode authentication
- "Require MS Project to authenticate..." is *not* ticked (to allow
Project 2000 compatibility)
- "Allow only MS Project Pro to publish..." is *not* ticked (we only
use Standard)
- Enterprise features are enabled
- in IIS, anonymous is *disabled* and Windows auth is *enabled* (I've
tried several combinations, including Basic, but no joy.)
- SSL is enabled with a valid cert (but same results with both http and
https)

I have another Project Server 2002 that is running fine, just in a
different domain. What is up with this one?

I've tried everything but the Ouija board. That's next.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
