Hi,

I have a laptop PC running Vista and Outlook 2007. I send & receive email
through my own domain, hosted by a third party. The domain has inexcess of
40 email accounts set up on it used by my collegues. All outlook
configuration settings are the same for all users, excluding mailbox account
passwords. STMP authentication is configured as per the domain hosting
company's instructions for all users. I connect to the internet using "BT
Broadband". I am able to recive email with no problems. I can send email to
most recipients with no problems.

At the time of writing I have found 4 email accounts that I am unable to
send email to all of which belong to different domains. 1 of the accounts is
on a domain hosted by the same company as my domain, 1 is a "BT Broadband"
email account.

When trying to send to these 4 accounts I get an "bounce back" with the
above error message. However the bounce back arrives very fast. In most
cases I would expect to have to "send/recieve" twice, once to send the email
and once to receive the bounce back, but this arrives almost as soon as the
email is sent, as if it is being generated by Outlook itself.

Other users from my domain are able to send emails to accounts that I cannot
which would indicate that my domain is NOT being rejected by the recipient's
SMTP servers. I know of other people who have domains with the same hosting
company and use a BT broadband connection and can send email without issue,
so that rules out BT preventing "off-domain" mail hosts.

I have searched google and these forums for a solution but the responses I
have found refer to SMTP authentication, which I know is set correctly,
rejection by recipient servers, which appears not to be the case, and
"off-domain" mail hosts which again I have tested for.

Can anyone shed any light for me?

Thanks

Dave

Probably now, since you've snipped the question/problem from this email.
BTW, if you Google for the error, you'll find the answer.

: Have I stumpped everyone???

Maybe, if you had bothered to read my original post you would have seen that
I have already searched Google and this message board. So perhaps you would
like to try to be a bit more helpful next time instead to just being a smart
arse!!

BT have a number of different mail services, some historical and some
current, covering both domestic and business customers. The rules
applying to these services vary from account to account and server to
server. Evwen within a particular service, BT may be inconsistent in
how the rules are applied.

There certainly are some BT services where "off-domain" mails are
prohibited. Most of the business acounts apply this rule. To get
around the issue, you need to contact BT and have them add the domain
to their lisat of approved names. They will need you to priove that
you are the owner of that domain. Usually they do this by checking
that the domain details match your BT account details.

Even if the above is not the cause of the problem, it is worth doing
to eliminate a source of future issues. Without doing the above, you
may have difficulty sending to other BT domains.

You say that secure aurthentication is set correctly. Is it on or off?
And are you authenticating against the main account details or the
user mailbox details.

Good luck!

That message indicates that you aren't properly authenticating to the outgoing
server. In general, the SMTP server you use must reside in the domain of the
service you're using to connect to the internet. Apparently you're not using
the network your SMTP server is expecting so it's rejecting your message as a
relay. Describe exactly how you have your account configured and what network
you're using when you try to send.
