error accessing file

Hello.
I just ran into a problem trying to play a powerpoint presentation developed
by someone else. I consistently got the message 'error accessing file ... '
and the file would not open properly.
I have Powerpoint 2002 on my WinXP laptop. I'm not certain about the
version of Powerpoint that the file was created with, but I'm confident that
it must be a newer version. Even many of the .jpg files that came on the CD
seem to be corrupted and cannot be displayed properly on my system. Am I
going nuts??? This debocle could not have happened at a worse time for
me...

Does anyone have any insight as to how I can recover from this situation?
Or must I throw in the towel...

Dave
