Error adding enterprise resource

H

Harmit

Hi all,

on adding a resource to the enterprise resource pool, I am getting an error
:

"Following users cannot be added due to error "Name or Windows Account
error", "

Any clues why this might be happening and how to get over it?

Thanks.

hi harmit,

can it be that you are using windows user accounst as
access to the PWA??? if so this could be the reason for
your error message - try to swich on the manage user part
of the admin of the project web access (PWA) wrom use
windows account to use user name and password - and then
you should be able to ad the user to the ent. resource
pool...

hope this helps

cheers

Hi,

From MSP, I am logging in using an admin account, which uses a
username/password. Also, I use the admin account requiring a
username/password to access the PWA rather than a windows accnt for
administration.

Also, I was able to add a large number of users in this manner, however some
are giving trouble.

The method I am following is:

1. Log in into Project server using the admin account, which asks for
username/password

2. add user and denote it as having windows authentication.

3. Open MSP using the admin account, which asks for username/password

4. Open Enterprise resource pool

5. Add this resource to the resource pool

6. Save Enterprise Resource Pool

This is where I get the error...."Following users cannot be added due to
error "Name or Windows Account error"

And I have checked that the name and windows accnt are correct.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Regards

Harmit

Hamit:

What's happening here is that you're adding the resource as a user first.
Adding a user to the resource pool automatically creates the user account
for the resource, so the system is telling you it can't do this because the
user account already exists. Once you've added a resource as a user and not
a resource, and then you decide to make the user a resource, the only way to
do this is to take the following action:

Add the users to a blank project file (.mpp) making certain to enter the
Windows account information accurately. Then use Tools > Enterprise Options
Import Resources to enterprise. Point to the plan you just setup and the
system will map these resources to their respective user accounts.

In the future, add your users as resources and you won't have this problem.

Hi,

thanks.

The same set of steps I was doing used to work earlier.

Anyway, information that you provided helped. I had two sets of users with
the same name created on the project server, one was having windows
authentication and the other projectserver authentication. It so happened
that the projectserver authenticated user got added to the enterprise
resource pool.

What I had to do is to delete both these users, and add them afresh directly
to the enterprise resource pool from MSP, as you suggested, and it worked...
of course, i had to go to projectserver and assign appropriate
rights/categories to this user.

Thanks again.

Gary,

Sorry, but I am confused by the response or my situation is slightly
different.

I checked out the Enterprise resource pool. Modified RBS on some resources,
changed some information on others, added some new resources, and attempted
to check the pool back in. I get the same "Name or Windows Account error".
It even shows that same error for some resources that I made no changes to.

We are mixed authentication mode so some users have windows account
information and others do not. I do not remember having to modify any
resources since applying SP1 to MS Project 2002.

Thanks,
Pat

Does sound like a completely different situation. Sounds more like you lost
your connection to the database while you were making the changes.

Gary,
Thank you for the post. I have retried and validated that I am connected to
the Project Server. Am still getting the same issue. Another thing that I
thought of: is there some sort of email or domain account validation
attempted by the server when updating Enterprise Resources? We run a Lotus
Notes email system. I have installed the Domino Connect to be able to access
the corporate address book via Outlook but could there be an issue there?

Also, there is another post from 09/15/2004 titled "unable to update ent
resource info." It is another user with what appears to be the same sort of
issue I am having.

Gary,
Additional information: I found out today that the Project Server 2002 SP1
has not been applied to our server. We had modified our RBS codes and there
are some KB articles that suggest this might generate problems if SP1 has not
been applied. Will update you on the progress.

Thanks,
Pat
