Error after punctuation

Using Word 2000 w/Windows XP. All of a sudden, an error
message comes up whenever I type in the punctuation in
the salutation of a letter and hit enter. Ex: Dear Sam,
(Enter for next line) screen brings up error message and
asks to send error report to MS or not. And then Word
closes down. It does not happen on any other application.
Can any one help me??

It may not be the punctuation. It may be "Dear Sam" (or Dear X). This
usually triggers the Office Assistant to pop up and say, "It looks like
you're writing a letter. Would you like some help?" So the problem could
well caused by a damaged or missing Office Assistant file.
